Privacy policy

How we handle your information, in plain English.

Who we are

PLANET MOTORS LIMITED, company number 15134816, registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 7 Trafalgar Gardens, London, England, E1 3FW. We are the data controller for the information described here.

Questions about your data: info@planetmotorsltd.co.uk or 07930 538073.

What we collect

Only what we need to answer you and sell you a car:

  • Your name, phone number and — if you give it — email address and postcode.
  • Which vehicle you asked about, and anything you wrote in the message.
  • If you use the car finder: the sort of car you’re looking for, your budget and preferences.
  • If you’re selling or part-exchanging: your registration, mileage, condition and history details.
  • How you found us, so we know which advertising works.

We do not collect financial information. No bank details, no income, no employment details, no credit history. We are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and do not provide financial advice or arrange finance.

We never store your IP address. We keep a one-way scrambled version to block spam, and it cannot be turned back into your address.

Why we can use it

To answer your enquiry and prepare a sale, which is either performing a contract with you or taking steps at your request before one. Keeping records of sales is a legal obligation. Preventing spam and fraud is our legitimate interest in running the business.

Marketing is separate and only ever with your consent. We store the exact wording you agreed to, alongside the date, so it’s clear what you said yes to. You can withdraw it at any time and we’ll stop.

Who else sees it

Nobody buys your details from us — we don’t sell data, ever. We use a small number of suppliers to run the business: web hosting, our database, email and text delivery, and our warranty provider when a plan is set up for your car. They act on our instructions only.

If you find a car of ours on AutoTrader, AutoTrader handle your data under their own privacy policy before it reaches us.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that don’t lead to a sale: two years, then anonymised. Sale records: as long as tax and consumer law require, currently six years. Spam-prevention records: 90 days.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we’re using it. Just ask — there’s no charge and no form. We reply within one month.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d rather you came to us first so we can fix it.

Cookies

This site uses only the cookies it needs to work — remembering your session in our admin area, for example. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies, which is why there’s no consent banner shouting at you.

Reviews

After you buy a car from us, we email you a personal link inviting you to leave a review. We only ever store a scrambled version of that link, never the link itself, and it stops working after 90 days.

If you leave a review, we publish your first name and last initial alongside it — for example “James T.” — permanently and publicly on this site. We publish every genuine review we receive, good or bad.

Want a review taken down? Contact us and we’ll remove it.

If we change this policy we’ll update this page.
